Grassroots Based Organisations
Grassroots Based Organisations
Grassroots based organisations address localised and felt needs of the
members. They are inclusive vehicles of expression and motivation for members
to call for or cause transformative change and establish minimum viable
products of replicable models of development.
Grassroots are any entities that occupy space or market places in all
dimensions whether locally (geographical), horizontally (across geographical
regions), vertically (in form of demographics, identity, kith and kinship),
centrally (as a result of a relationship between one entity to another where balancing
power dynamics is crucial) and peripherally (where there is need to bring power
systems and structures where they seem non-existent).
Power brings people together, sets in place activities that transform
communities, provides possibilities for discernment of problems to proffer
solutions.
Power situates position and creates decision-making hierarchies which
catalyse roles and responsibilities and a culture of accountability. This sets
the path for individuals to gain access to opportunities for self and
development of their communities or organisations.
Organisations, or Grassroots based organisations for that matter, set
the ground for probing or framing critical examination of variables or
characters of uniqueness through which matters to be addressed arise as well as
solutions or interventions to implement occur.
Grassroot based organisations are organic libraries of insights along
public health, legal, gender, physical, political, social, cultural, economic,
civil and environmental enabling and responsive contexts. These in turn create
conditions for inclusivity, empathy, equality, equity and compassion.
Grassroot based organisations are the belly-buttons which are
revelations of pain and resilience. They are opportunities for locating and
strengthening systems and structures to prevent, prepare for, respond to calamities,
crises and cataclysms like climate-change.
Grass root based organisations are spaces where it is possible to apply
interventional heuristics against the bear brunt of inequalities and
inequities.
Such interventional heuristics enable members or beneficiaries to
address, estimate and reduce risks and vulnerabilities that if left undressed
may lead to morbidity and mortality. It
is in this context that communities are able to prevent diseases, prolong life
and promote health.
Communities need to be taken through the steps of preparation in order
for them to be ready to tackle issues that need addressing. This has to be done
strategically though.
