Key Populations (KP) Mobilize Against TB, Malaria, HIV, HPV And Hepatitis

At Most-At-Risk Populations' Society in Uganda (MARPS in Uganda) we have endeavoured to highlight the need to make prevention efforts known to Key Populations (KP).

What are these "Prevention" efforts in this case?

We are talking of TB, Malaria, HIV, HPV, Hepatitis and other infections such as Ebola.

TB

When we talk of KP, we are specifically talking of such a population group with higher prevalence of HIV, vulnerability and susceptibility to infections and people who have not always been targeted by mainstream services. In our case we are targeting: LGBTIPQQ, Sex-workers, Drug-users and Persons Living With HIV (PLHIV).

We are calling upon all KP-led organisations to work with NAFOPHANU as they lead their TB Prevention Campaign. It runs from July to October 2019, and hey intend to link 30,000 People Living With HIV/AIDS to TB Treatment.

The other names for TB Treatment are:

Isoniazid Prevention Therapy (IPT)

Prophylactic Isoniazid Therapy (PIT)

Isoniazid TB Treatment (ITT)

Isoniazid TB Therapy (ITT)

It is advisable for those living with HIV to take Isoniazid even when they do not have TB

MALARIA

Seek Malaria treatment  and Information, Education, Communication (IEC) materials at a nearest clinic, health facility or hospital. It is better if you mobilized bigger numbers and then contacted service providers.

HIV

Mobilize your members to attend HIV testing at an identified clinic, health facility or hospital

Conduct sessions to encourage circumcision

Conduct sessions to encourage reduction in sexual partners

Conduct sessions to reduce use of alcohol, cigarettes and addictive drugs

Conduct sessions to promote HIV Prevention such as use of condoms, lube and dental dams

Provide opportunities for ARV accessibility, ARV Adherence, Viral suppression

HPV (Human Papillomavirus)

HPV causes small size blisters, warts or swellings anywhere

HPV blisters, warts or swellings appear on the lips, skin, anus, vagina, penis, armpits and between thighs

HPV is sexually transmitted

HPV is transmitted by sharing clothes, towels, underwears and bedding

HPV causes oral, penile, anal, and vaginal cancer

Have you looked for information, Education, Communication (IEC)  on HPV?

Have you shared it with your members?

Do you know how it is transmitted, signs, symptoms and cure?

Provide this kind of IEC materials at your organisation resource centre

Hepatitis B

Did you know that Ministry of Health and CBS FM are conducting Hepatitis B immunisation drives?

13th and 14th August have been earmarked by CBS FM as the days for Hepatitis B immunisation. This is a co-shared service where you have to pay Uganda Shillings Ten thousands oly (10,000.00)

Your organisation should mobilise resources on Hepatitis and initiate IEC sharing/dissemination focus days

The next round of Hepatitis B Immunisation is 10th and 11th September 2019
