A highlight of 6 issues during the International Human Rights Day
Please follow us on
our journey to highlight 6 issues during the International Human Rights Day
which is today.
Also, do not forget we are hosting the UHC
Day-Africa Baraza on 12th December. You are welcome.
Islam is peaceful, tolerant and a harmonizer
“The great liberal betrayal of this generation is that in the
name of liberalism, communal rights have been prioritized over individual
autonomy within minority groups. And minorities within minorities really do
suffer because of this betrayal. The people I really worry about when we have
this conversation are feminist Muslims, gay Muslims, ex-Muslims—all the
vulnerable and bullied individuals who are not just stigmatized but in many
cases violently assaulted or killed merely for being against the norm”.-Maajid
Journalists Reporting about Sexuality, Gender,
Identity and Orientation must ensure
Accuracy and
fairness, independence, integrity, accountability, opportunity to reply, unnamed
Sources, confidentiality, misrepresentation, obscenity, taste and tone in reporting,
paying for news and articles,
constructive covering of ethnic, religious and sectarian conflict and
hetero-normative sexuality, orientation, gender and identity issues, unbiased recording of interviews and phone conversations, and ensure
privacy is not infringed upon.
Freedom
of expression as a lived reality
Lived realities are
reactive and should not be seen as a threat but rather opportunities for
learning. Being part of a bigger crowd
is a tool to conforming to a majority. However, this should not be to the
disadvantage of a minority. We should strive to make democracy decent and not
just about numbers-Kenny.
Health right
UHC in full is Universal Health Coverage. The 12th December
Events remind the entire world that:
1. Our States and Governments can invest in a mechanism where one walks into a health facility with a Health Insurance Card and get services without paying out of the pocket.
2. That all human beings can benefit from this policy, be they refugees or not. Refugees are human beings and their lives matter too.

Faith
in Women and Dignity of Persons
All women can be elevated in all aspects of their life-
emotionally, mentally, physically, financially, and spiritually. This
effort bears the results which include dignity of persons.
Communities Are First
Responders
Communities must be empowered to foster health for all. They
are the catalyst for enduring solutions and therefore must be supported with
logistics, facilitated with resources and provided opportunities to deliver.
In our case, community responders; faith in women and dignity for all persons; health as a right; freedom of expression; mind set on constructive reporting by journalists or citizen reporters; and tolerance exhibited by religions, especially Islam were key issues that kept coming up in our analyses of reports, occurrences and experiences around the world. These in turn cascade into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
