Tanzania: Civil society groups express concern over rapid decline in human rights

Image
65 civil society groups call on the Tanzanian Government to address rapidly deteriorating environment for media, human rights defenders and opposition party members To President John Magufuli Your Excellency, We, the undersigned civil society organisations (CSOs) from across the world, write to express our deep concern over the worrying decline in respect for human rights, including the rights to freedom of association, expression and peaceful assembly, in Tanzania. We urge your government to take proactive measures to protect these rights which are crucial to civic space and publicly recognise the essential role that a vibrant civil society and an independent media play in creating peaceful and equal societies. Tanzania’s long-standing commitment to improving the human rights of all people, both nationally and within the region, is notable and should be acknowledged as such.  However, we are deeply alarmed that these human rights issues are being precipito...

Harvard Gives Tips On Vitamin Consciousness! Are You Vitamin Conscious?

Image
Did you know, the foods we eat have enough vitamins in them? Did you know you can make it your practice to feed right? According to Harvard specialists, "To sustain good health, your body must get more than 30 vitamins, minerals, and dietary components that it can't make at all, or in sufficient quantities."  You should know that vitamins and minerals differ, but are all essential and are absorbed, interact,  but they sometimes come into conflict if misused or taken irregularly You must understand that vitamins need to be replenished every few days and your body can store and release them as needed. According to same specialists, Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) often change with age, different vitamins have useful antioxidant properties, and it is within your reach to improve on your vitamins and minerals intake. Remember more readily available vitamins are in your culinary finger tips and not your cabinet!

The benefits of multivitamins are looking doubtful. Can we do without them? Updated: April 30, 2018 Published: July, 2009 The answer is a qualified yes – we can do without them, as long as you eat a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables. In the past, doctors often suggested a standard multivitamin with minerals each day. They don't cost much, and earlier studies had shown some benefits. For example, it appeared that folic acid and other B vitamins might lower the risk of heart disease, stroke and possibly cancer. But more recent studies have shown no added benefit of multivitamins for healthy people that eat a balanced diet. Experts agree that the best way to get the nutrients we need is through food. A balanced diet — one containing plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains — offers a mix of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients (some yet to be identified) that collectively meet the body's needs. Maybe what counts is the synergistic interactions ...

Dear Hon. Minister of Ethics Simon Lokodo, use the key to reverse HIV, do not throw it away instead

Image
Do not stop the conference. Let us look at the non heterosexual conforming persons as a key to unlocking the secrets to why HIV is still a menace.  In stopping the conference/s you are instead throwing away a vital key to ending the ravages of AIDS. Thank you for the good work you do. You are a beacon directing many and indeed Uganda is lucky to have a person of your stature. I am writing to disagree with the tone, spirit and intention following the statements made by you which are accessible in the Ugandan dailies. You are a face and mouth of the Uganda Government/State and on matters of non-heterosexual normativity or those who do not conform to a male/female gender it is clear who to approach and where there is need to drive enduring and inclusive conversations. My humble question is how we can reach a common ground on the human nature of those we think do not conform to a male/female heterosexual normativity? How find alternatives to retributive decisions ...

Best source of vitamins is your plate, not your medicine cabinet according to Harvard Medical School findings

Vitamin and mineral supplements from a bottle simply can't match all the biologically active compounds teeming in a well-stocked pantry. By focusing on the big picture, it's easy to get plenty of the vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients you need to keep you healthy and prevent disease. Here are some tips. Fiber.  It's the part of plant foods that we can't digest. Eating foods high in fiber helps reduce total and LDL ("bad") cholesterol, improve blood sugar control, and prevent constipation. High-fiber foods also help with weight loss by making you feel full. There are lots of high-fiber foods to choose from: brown rice bulgur (cracked wheat) barley oats nuts beans and lentils apples blueberries carrots Vitamins and minerals.  Vitamins are organic substances found in plants and animals. Minerals are inorganic elements from the earth (soil and water). Both are essential for normal growth and optimal health. Here's a list of vi...
