Kampala Uganda: #WewantPoem By I Don't Know Who
Walking down past Christ the King Church in Kampala Capital City Authority,
a postcard was blowing down the street as if in a hurry down the Parliamentary Avenue up to wherever it would end.
On this postcard was written a sentimental plea.
Was it written by a student who seeing Parliamentarians speed by, wanted them to know that as they legislate they should be mindful of the marginalized?
Was it written by a pregnant woman?
Perhaps it was written by " I don't know who!"
Its title was #WewantPoem.
We want to work with you and engage in community activities without being stigmatized.
Because when we work in our communities we contribute to community wellness.
We want to clean the communities with you and engage in community activities without being stigmatized.
Because this community is our home too and the community benefits all.
We want to plant trees with you and engage in community activities without being stigmatized.
Because when we plant trees, we add that extra tree. That one tree benefits all of us.
We want to stay in school and engage in community activities without being stigmatized.
Because when we seek knowledge it improves our mental capacity and adjustment.
We want to plant trees with you and engage in community activities without being discriminated.
Because we are humans who need each other.
We want to clean the communities with you and engage in community activities without being discriminated.
Because when we work together we care together.
We want to work with you and engage in community activities without being discriminated.
Because through work we earn a living.
We want to stay in school and engage in community activities as well without being discriminated.
Because education empowers one to integrate well in society.
